The first action movie, “The Great Train Robbery,” emerged in 1903. After that, the 1920s and 1930s were filled with swashbuckling action movies. This kind of movie usually has a lot of action scenes, like fights or shootouts with guns, car races, and often a lot of explosions. Disaster movies, martial arts movies, spy movies, and superhero movies are all types of action movies. Examples of action films are John Wick, Fast and Furious, and The Avengers.
Types Of Action Movie
There are several types of action movies:
Action- Adventure
Movies in this subgenre are typically characterized by a journey in which the protagonist is chased or searched for something in an exotic locale. The Indiana Jones franchise, created by Steven Spielberg, is an excellent example of this subgenre. Indiana Jones, an archaeologist in the film Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, was looking for holy artifacts. Other examples include pirate films, serialized films, treasure hunts, searches or expeditions for lost continents, jungle/desert epics, gold, secret maps, traps, and voyages into the unknown.

Superhero movies
The heroes in this subgenre have supernatural talents and, more importantly, use their superpowers for unselfish ends. They face off against villains with similar superpowers. They are frequently, but only sometimes, based on superhero comic books. The Marvel and DC franchises (Superman, Iron Man, and so on) are superhero films based on comic books, but The Incredibles is not.
Martial arts movies
This film subgenre is also known as “Wu xia pian,” which translates to “movies of chivalrous combat” in Chinese. Values such as duty, brotherhood, and honor are central to these films. Enter the Dragon, featuring Bruce Lee, is an excellent example of this, as are certain Jackie Chan films such as Rumble in the Bronx.
Heroic Bloodshed
This subgenre is about things like brotherhood, honor, redemption, duty, and saving those who are weak. This came from Hong Kong at first but has since spread all over the world. The Killer is one of these kinds of movies.
Military Action
Here, the subgenre is about how the actions of the military are funny instead of sad. Movies like Transformers and the G.I. Joe series are good examples of this.
Spy Movies
In this subgenre, a spy is usually on a secret mission, usually in an exotic place, and often uses a wide range of high-tech gadgets and equipment to finish the task. This sub-genre is shown well in the James Bond series.
Disaster Movies
This type of movie is marked by a lot of damage, usually caused by natural things like earthquakes, tornadoes, asteroids hitting the earth, etc. In a disaster movie, the main goal of the main character is to stay alive. A modern version is the movie 2012, which stars John Kusack.
Video Game Movies
The scripts for these movies were taken from well-known computer games. They can belong to any genre based on the plot and how the story is told. Take the Prince of Persia series as an example.
Action movies can be broken down into a wide variety of subgenres, some of which include but are not limited to the following: martial arts, superhero, spy, disaster, war, science fiction, and fantasy. There is a lot of crossover between these subgenres and other genres like crime fiction, thrillers, and adventures. Watch lookmovie for more!
